Let’s Get Growing!
We want to make sure you get the most out of your plants. Every month we pick a new ‘Plant of the Month’ to give you some inspiration and we have lots of guides on how to care for your garden.
Plant of the Month
Hello July!
July is a colourful month at the garden centre, so we’ve gone rogue and picked Herbaceous Perennials for our plant(s) of the month.
If you’d like to know more about our featured herbaceous perennials, or more about herbaceous perennials suited to your garden, please pop in and talk to our friendly team.
Wisteria Pruning
Have you seen our stunning wisteria arch? If you’re thinking about adding a wisteria to the garden this year, why not pop in and have a chat with our team?
Roses
They’re an English country garden classic and for very good reason. With such variety in size, colour and fragrance strength, there’s a rose for every garden.
We have a brilliant range of roses in at the moment, including a new range designed especially with cut flowers in mind. Pop in to have a look or, if you have a particular variety in mind, get in touch!
Hydrangea
The ever popular Hydrangea is well suited to our area and makes a great addition to the garden. You may know that they can change flower colour depending on the acidity of your soil.
For more information, or to find out if a hydrangea is best suited for your garden, please pop in and see us or get in touch!
Lavender
Lavender is certainly a favourite here at SO Plants! We especially love the English varieties Hitcote and Munstead as they’re better suited for our Northern conditions.
With lavender you’ll want free draining soil and a sunny position to achieve the best results. Pop in for a chat if you have any questions
Rhododendrons
They’re a woodland garden classic - Rhododendrons are acidic plants suited to our local clay soil. We recommend planting in March/April or October and mixing acidic organic matter, like ericaceous compost, into the area in which you’re planting.
For more information, please pop in and have a chat with our team!
Clematis
Looking to add a little colour to your patio this summer? Why not try building your own patio clematis feature pot? We have some great varieties of clematis in at the moment so please feel free to pop in for a chat about the best clematis for your garden.
Alpines
The alpines have arrived and we have a great range in. Alpines can bring some wonderful Spring colour to the garden and are low maintenance.
With alpines, your main concern is drainage. You’ll want a 50:50 mix of compost and grit, which is why they’re often better suited to containers,
Alpine containers also make great fairy gardens for young gardeners. Simply add a pebble path and let their imaginations run wild!
